Keith Brais graduated from Massachusetts Maritime Academy (“MMA”) and having acquired sufficient sea time as a watch stander sat for and passed the examination with the U.S. Coast Guard for his Third Engineer’s License, Unlimited Horsepower, Steam and Motor (1981). After acquiring additional sea time, Keith Brais again sat for and passed the examination with the U.S. Coast Guard for his Second Engineer’s License, Unlimited Horsepower, Motor (1983). All told, Keith Brais sailed off-shore for seven years.
