Lucy Fernandez, a South Florida high school senior, passed away Monday from injuries she sustained in a Sunday night boating accident off Cutler Bay. As reported by USA Today, the boat, a 28-foot Robalo center console hit a channel marker near Boca Chita Key and capsized. The incident left eleven people injured, four critically. Supraja Alaparthi, her son, and her nephew were parasailing on Monday shortly before 5:30 p.m. when they slammed into a bridge in Key West. The parasail hurtled toward the bridge at an unsafe speed after getting caught in a gale. It is reported by several news agencies that one American woman is presently hospitalized while three other Americans have died from unknown causes while vacationing at the Sandals Emerald Bay resort on Great Exuma, Bahamas. The woman hospitalized has since been flown to South Florida for further care.
The cause of the deaths is still under investigation but it has been stated that there were no signs of trauma or foul play.
