Vehicle Recalls

In 2014, the auto industry recalled almost 64 million cars for safety failures, a record year for manufacturers. The recalls included 803 different problems. The manufacturer initiated 680 of the recalls and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration triggered 123 of the recalls in response to investigations.

Although sometimes manufacturers proactively issue recalls to avoid injuries to consumers, in many cases, problems are not discovered until people are injured or killed by the faulty auto part. In other cases, the manufacturer knew about, but ignored, defects in their automobiles.

The imperfect recall system also often fails to effectively notify owners of dangerous automobiles. Therefore, drivers can unknowingly continue to drive in cars that have serious defects and not be given the opportunity to make needed repairs. Even if they are promptly notified, delays in repairs are common because mechanics must wait for parts. For these reasons, our lawyers always consider whether the facts indicate a possible flaw in the automobile whenever we pursue a car crash claim. We investigate every angle and have a team of engineers, accident reconstruction experts, medical experts and other professionals available for consultation.

Common Automobile Defects

Our products liability lawyers handle a variety of automobile defect claims including:

Defective seatbelts

Seat belts save 13,000 lives every year. However, sometimes seat belts do more harm than good or fail altogether because of a defect. Our lawyers assist you with recovery for seat-belt failure injuries.

Defective airbags

Airbags reduce number of drivers killed in frontal crashes by 29 percent and deaths to passengers in the front seat by 30 percent. However, a defective airbag may fail to deploy or may actually directly cause severe injuries. We hold the manufacturer liable for airbag-related injuries.

Defective tires/tread separation

Tire failure is linked to nearly 33,000 crashes and 500 fatalities every year. Our legal team pursues the tire manufacturer that negligently produced a defective tire that resulted in tread separation and blowout.

Defective seat backs

Defective seat backs is tied to serious back and neck injuries to the occupant in the seat and severe injuries to children in the back seat, including brain damage, spinal cord damage, facial injuries and death.
