The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports Oceana Cruises’ ship Marina arrived at the Port of Miami on March 15, 2011 with 39 passengers and 29 crew sick from gastrointestinal illness.
In response, Oceana Cruises:

Increased cleaning and disinfection procedures according to their outbreak prevention and response plan,

Made announcements to both notify passengers and encourage case reporting,

Provide full service at all buffet and self-service food outlets,

Al.com reports a female passenger aboard the Carnival cruise ship Elation was injured in a fall shortly after the ship departed the Alabama Cruise Terminal on March 7, 2011. The injury caused the vessel to dock at a coal terminal in order for the passenger to be taken off the ship for further medical care.

Sign On San Diego reports a 68-year-old passenger was medevaced from Holland American Line’s cruise ship Rotterdam to shore for medical treatment early on March 5, 2011.
The cruise ship Rotterdam notified San Diego harbor officials that a passenger was complaining of chest pains and in need of immediate assistance. The Washington Post reports Nelson Perez Torres, a Mexican national, has been detained in the death of a Royal Caribbean Cruises crew member who was discovered drowned in the sea off the resort island of Cozumel.
