Cruise ship gangway accidents

Cruise ship gangway accidents

Under Maritime Law, cruise operators owe the duty to provide a reasonably safe means of egress and ingress to the vessel. When a cruise ship is in its home port, its home turnaround port, getting aboard the cruise ship and getting off the cruise ship is very, very easy. When that cruise ship leaves its home port, sometimes these smaller ports of calls have difficult steep ramps.

Sometimes they're double wide, sometimes it's not possible to have a hold of each hand rail on the side. Sometimes they're left out in the rain, sometimes they're wet, sometimes they don't have non-skid or if they have non-skid they're not in good shape. A poor passenger comes along and they fall. They can have fairly serious injuries. These are claims we've been handling for nearly 30 years.
