What are the Leading Causes of Boating Accidents?

Video Transcript

There's two things that are the lead cause of boating accidents. It's operator inexperience and a complete lack of awareness of what's referred to as the navigational rules. A lack of knowledge with respect to the rules of the road results in really only one thing, not whether an accident is going to happen, except the fact that is going to happen, the only question is when?

We're very, very often called upon to help people who have been -- one boat literally runs over another boat, the two boats collide. It's a really, really good idea, just like you do behind a car, to have a designated driver, someone who will take responsibility to be alert and to be able to drive. A car might have two or 300 horsepower, boats will have 1,000 horsepower, but no one thinks about that in the potential ramifications.

We help people who've suffered from horrible boating accidents deal with those two causes.
