Yacht Crew Member Claims

Video Transcript

Crew members aboard yachts, mega yachts, sport fishing vessels whatever the case may be. Their claims are also governed by Admiralty and Maritime law. Crew members have several claims that are available to them that have nothing to do with the shoreside law. Crew members have a statutory claim called a Jones Act statutory negligence claim.

They have an unseaworthiness claim. An unseaworthiness claim essentially argues that either the ship, its equipment, or a fellow crew member were not reasonably fit for their intended purpose, all of which can impose liability upon the employer. Not only the employer but sometimes, also, as well, the vessel owner. These yacht and crew member claims are claims that we've been handling at Brais Law Firm for nearly 30 years.
